The tradition of contemplative theology holds rich pastoral re-sources that have been almost entirely neglected in contemporary pastoral counseling practice, particularly in Pentecostal-Charismatic churches in Indonesia that tend to emphasize emotional expression and explosive spi-ritual performance. This article argues that silence is not a pastoral absence signaling a counselor's ignorance or helplessness but rather a structured, theological, and effective pastoral intervention for accompanying indivi-duals experiencing spiritual desolation. Through a systematic theological literature review of the apophatic theology tradition, Ignatian spirituality, Eastern hesychasm, and modern contemplative theology, this article identifies the anatomy of spiritual desolation, excavates theological resources from traditions of silence, and constructs a three-stage methodology con-sisting of contemplative orientation, shared silence, and post-silence integration. The central argument is that pastoral silence, when consciously and structurally practiced in the light of contemplative theology, creates an encounter space that no pastoral word, however sophisticated, can generate, because silence affirms that God's presence is most powerfully manifest precisely within the deepest silence.
